Hello to everyone. My name is John, i am 30 years old, i am from Greece and i ride a Yamaha TDM900. Also, i am a member of the greek TDM club.
I find it a little difficult to understand what the topics are about, because i am not familliar with the croatian language, so please forgive me for writing in English.
I will visit Dubrovnik with my motorbike and my girlfriend Melina the second week of June, so i tried to find out if there is any motorbike interest in the area i am going to visit, and i found this forum. I read about the Vukovar ride that you do, too late for me unfortunately, and i would like next year to join you to this, if -of course- i am accepted.
We will cross upwards Albania, Montenegro and we will come to Dubrovnik for a week. I want to see this beautyful city, and also visit the Krka National Park, if i can, one of our days there.
Any information that i might find interesting (what to see, what to do, what to be careful of, where to go, where to eat etc...) to my visit there, is welcome.
Thank you in advance, friends!

Hi and welcome!
There was a bunch of us from this forum in Meteora about a month ago:
http://www.du-moto.com/forum/index.php?topic=5262.0
We divided up there, and part of the group went back to Ohrid, and the other part stayed in Meteora one more night and went back home directly.
I don't know if you have already been through Albania, and which route you will take, but we took the shortest way.
We went to Ioannina, and then entered into Albania at the Kakavia border crossing (great roads in Greece! ).
From there the road is more or less in good condition (some parts are excellent) up to Tepelene, but then there is some 75-80 km of really bad road up to the city of Fier.
After that the road is again more or less in good condition. You can also expect heavy traffic in some of the cities you will be passing through (especially around Durres)due to road work.
You should definitely see Krka National park, and depending on the time you will have Plitvice National park would be worth seeing as well. It's about 180km north of NP Krka:
http://www.plitvice24.com/en/about-plitvice
p.s.
If you have a GPS, don't rely on it 100% while driving through Albania. A good road map is much better ;)

Hello Pit, welcome to our forums :occasion:
-
Hi, Pit. Welcome! :good2:
I must agree with Fjaka!
Plitvice is a "must see" location. My pick over Krka on any given day...especially if You have limited time and need to choose ONE.
Take care, and have fun in DU. It's a pearl..... true pearl...
And CRO ... obviously a pearl necklace. (w/ humble people and all .... )
;)

Pozdrav! :cool2:

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I will take the road through Corce-Tirane-Shkoder. After that, what do you suggest :
1) Shkoder-Podgorica-Kotor-Dubrovnik?
or
2) Shkoder-Bar-Kotor-Dubrovnik?
Unfortunatelly i have booked my hotel from here, (my mistake) so i have to sleep 7 nights in Dubrovnik. But its ok, i will make some 1-day tours, so i will be able to go to Krka and back in one day. Maybe in Zadar too. If i see that i am not getting too tired, i will try Plitvice. Also i heard Kotor is a nice place for a visit, and maybe Durmitor NP.
Fjaka, those are the best photos i've ever seen since i decided to come to Croatia! You should work for the tourist department or something! :D
Jeeves, thanks for the gps tip for Albania, i was afraid of that too.
-
the better road is
2) Shkoder-Bar-Kotor-Dubrovnik?
and shortest

Yes, as Bajac wrote: Shkoder-Bar-Kotor-Dubrovnik is the shorter, and nicer drive.
When you enter Shkoder there is bridge on the left side that you must cross to get to the Montenegrian border on your way to Bar.
It looks like this, one way traffic only
I wrote this and put the picture, because I don't remember seeing any road signs showing you the way to the border ( I misses the first time when I was there ;) )
When you cross the bridge turn left and follow the road to the border crossing.
Kotor is a good one day trip, and Durmitor NP is really nice (was there last September, but I doubt you can see everything worth seeing in one day).
Too bad that you booked all 7 nights in Dubrovnik, it limits your range for day trips.
-
Welcome
I agree with Fjaka and others about Plitvice,Krka is nice too...I think Plitvice is a bit too far for a one day visit from Dubrovnik. It takes at least 5 hours to get there from Dubrovnik.
Dobro je ovako malo vježba engleski,a jesmo ga zapametovali ;D
Check out all this links that forum mates put and consider about every of it,better than searching any help from tourist agency

....better than searching any help from tourist agency...
+1 to that, all of you were more than helpful.
I don't mind that i am going to stay 7 nights in Dubrovnik, and not see everything, it will be a good excuse to come again next year.

So, after a lot of thinking, and thanks to your precious help, i decided that i should (can...) do 3 one-day trips from Dubrovnik.
-Kotor-Lovcen-Skadar,
-Krka (and Split)
-Durmitor (or Mostar, alternatevely)
Plitvice is too far for me, unfortunately.
Fjaka, i saw your trip to Durmitor. Very nice fotos, once again!!! [smilie=clap] :cool2:
You say it was 503km total? Or am i wrong? How much is it Dubrovnik-Niksic-Durmitor and back from the same road?
(why is Gosha making fun of you??? :D )
-
Dubrovnik-Budva-Cetinje(old Capital city)-Lovcen-Kotor-Dubrovnik is your first trip. If I should be free, I will go with you...
Funny was my answer on fjaka's post on Engish...
-
On Durmitor, you must go Dubrovnik-Trebinje-Niksic-Savnik-Zabljak (170 km). Zabljak is a little town on Durmitor. Stay for rest and lunch. Food is exellent...
Than you will go Zabljak-Mojkovac (Canyon Tara river), than Mojkovac-Kolasin (NP Biogradska gora-Lake on 1200 m), than Kolasin-Podgorica-Virpazar (NP Skadar lake, the biggest lake on Balkan), than Virpazar-Petrovac-Budva-Tivat-Ferry-Herceg Novi-Dubrovnik...
From Zabljak to Dubrovnik has 280 km, on this way...
It is 450 km for that trip...
-
450km is a good trip for 1 day, i guess.
We will be glad to meet you there! We will arrange it when we come.
-
Dubrovnik - Budva -Podgorica - Mojkovac - Zabljak 317 km
(http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8328/duzabljak1298rw0.png)
Zabljak - Savnik - Niksic -Trebinje - Dubrovnik 186 km

Sorry fjaka, but this is by viamichelin.com...
(http://fodi.frubar.net/files/4F17842A-9A44-3440-824B-57E2C7303053_thumb.jpg) (http://fodi.frubar.net/files/4F17842A-9A44-3440-824B-57E2C7303053.jpg)
Diferent way is in your pictue, because he will go via Podgorica and Virpazar (Skadar lake), not via Cetinje...
On this, my picture, road goes arround Kotr bay, but that is not nesesery, and that is 30 km more than by ferry...
By viamichelin.com, road from Dubrovnik via Niksic to Zabljak, has 171 km...
-
This is final version, with driving arround Kotor bay, by viamichelin.com...
(http://fodi.frubar.net/files/60265D07-5E3B-454F-AFBD-59233E97C383_thumb.jpg) (http://fodi.frubar.net/files/60265D07-5E3B-454F-AFBD-59233E97C383.jpg)
There is less than 450 km, if he goes by ferry...
-
Kalimera RokiRoki!
30 more, 30 less, it is a big trip so i guess it does not matter this much.
But it contains both trips i planed, Durmitor and Kotor, so i save one day for relaxing at the beach! It is my holiday, after all!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
ofcourse... :occasion:
